Sarah and Ian's Move to Ottawa

The story so far...having planned and booked a three month trip to South America, we were given a difficult decision to make when Ian was offered a job in Canada. After much hard thinking, we took the job, but get the best of both worlds as we still have two weeks in Brazil and Chile before arriving in Ottawa. We are now living in Ottawa and enjoying the big adventure of living somewhere new. This is the story of our experience...

Hello and Goodbye

We returned to Ottawa on Tuesday evening and moved into our new apartment. We’re staying in a hotel/apartment and are renting it weekly so we can leave at any time. I went back to work on Wednesday while Sarah entertained her parents with a drive out to Omega park and lunch out with Sarah’s great aunt.

On Friday night Sarah’s parents treated us to a lovely dinner at Eighteen restaurant, one of our favourite restaurants in Ottawa. We had an early night so Sarah’s dad and I could get up early to watch England’s opening World Cup match at the pub. Not a great atmosphere here in Canada as not many people are interested in the World Cup and because of the time difference to Germany the matches start early in the morning. We had a big screen TV to ourselves. Sarah’s parents flew home on Saturday evening. It was sad to see them go, but we know it will not be long before we see them again.

On Sunday we went to the cinema to watch The Break-up. It was ok.

Well Earned Rest

We had a much deserved few days away. We spent the weekend with Sarah’s parents at Tremblant. We had a relaxing time and I played golf. On Saturday we walked around the village and were in and out of the shops. Roger and I had a go on the luge. Not as fast paced as the Montreal Grand Prix we had seen together last year but still fun. The weather was much better on Sunday so we were able to get the cable car up to the top of the mountain and appreciate the views from the top. The only downside was we were all bitten to buggery by black flies and were really itchy!

After lunch we jumped into the rented SUV and drove to Quebec City. Our B&B, Auberge de la Quartier, was lovely. We had the two bedroom suite upstairs which had just been decorated. We had an enjoyable two days roaming around the city seeing the historic district, Citadel, Notre Dame Cathedral. We were able to get good views of the Chateau Frontenac at sunset from the ferry to Levis. We enjoyed Quebec City so much that I celebrated by rolling down a grass hill in a city park.

Hectic Hassles

We’ve had a really busy week. We finished packing up our apartment and our boxes were collected and will be shipped to the UK. We returned our car, Mica. That was quite sad as she was our first car together. Today was really hectic as we moved out of our apartment in the Glebe, Sarah finished work and we met up with Sarah’s parents and all went away for the weekend.
