Sarah and Ian's Move to Ottawa

The story so far...having planned and booked a three month trip to South America, we were given a difficult decision to make when Ian was offered a job in Canada. After much hard thinking, we took the job, but get the best of both worlds as we still have two weeks in Brazil and Chile before arriving in Ottawa. We are now living in Ottawa and enjoying the big adventure of living somewhere new. This is the story of our experience...

Nature Lookout

Our guests, Katie and Jill have gone to Toronto, Niagara and Algonquin National Park for the week. Not to be out done by their efforts to see moose, beaver and bear (in the NP not Toronto), Sarah and I tried again to get to Champlain lookout in Gatineau Park. It turns out that Champlain lookout is about 200 yards from the point where we gave up driving to it last weekend with Katie and Jill!

Anyway, the view over the valley is very picturesque. We noticed birds of prey soaring on the thermals rising up the hills of the park. Some of the birds glided close to the lookout point so I wanted to get a photo of them. We went for a walk in the woods first though and by the time we got back the birds had moved too far away to get a good picture. I sat for maybe half an hour watching them, waiting for them to fly closer. Eventually one came a bit closer. I focussed the camera and tracked it across the sky but it was too far for a good photo still. When I took the camera away from my face I notice another bird cross right in front of me only a few yards above my head but moving too fast for me to refocus the camera. D’oh!

On our drive out of the park we had to stop quickly as a deer jumped out of the woods and ran across the road in front of us. Again, too quick for us to get a photographic shot at it.

We took a new route back to the flat and came across an anomaly in the space-time continuum. Light was being bent from all directions in to a circle about 3m across. Odd! (see album 9g Ottawa).

Katie and Jill stayed with us on Saturday night on their way from Algonquin to Montreal. We were all tired from a busy week so it was quiet night being entertained by the tele and looking at photos.
